1867
He was born on a farm in Dreghorn, North Ayrshire, and studied to be a veterinary surgeon at the Dick Vet, University of Edinburgh, a profession he pursued for nearly ten years at home, moving to Downpatrick, Ireland, in 1867. He established Downe Veterinary Clinicin Downpatrick with his brother James Dunlop before moving to a practice in Belfast. He was a good friend of Queen Victoria.
1887
A simple idea can change the world. J.B Dunlop experimented ways to ease the discomfort of his son’s tricycle and eventually came up with the air-filled or pneumatic tyre. From there, this remarkable new idea has made a great contribution to the development of contemporary automobile society. Since then, Dunlop flourished in the world for more than 120 years.
1888
1 October 1888, John Boyd Dunlop patented the idea of a pneumatic tyre.
1889
In 1889, Dunlop Tyres began production of pneumatic tyres at a factory in Dublin and opened the first tyre factory in Dirmingham after 2 years.
